A Venus ingress is a rare position that occurs in pairs with eight years between and only twice every century. On June 6, 2012, Venus will ingress for the second time this century. After its earlier ingress, we saw an increase in natural disasters, while political and economical changes gained momentum. The same is true for the flow of information and developments in technology. The years 2004 to 2012 are considered a transitional period that will prepare us for a new era.
Venus was a critical celestial body for all the ancient civilizations, but the Mayans rated Venus particularly highly. They used it as a guide to calculate time and keep track of its cycles, and they considered it an indicator in their calendars. They scheduled wars and important political events according to Venus’s cycles and managed their social lives accordingly. According to Mayan researchers, the Mayan Long Count calendar began on August 11, 3114 BC, which they also called the “Birth of Venus.” These researchers claimed that the Long Count would end in 2012 with the Venus ingress, which was a kind of indicator for them.
Venus is brightest for the two weeks after it passes in front of the Sun. Venus hides behind the Sun for 13 weeks before rising as the morning star. It then emerges as the evening star again. This is Venus’s synodic cycle, which repeats five times every eight years. Venus conjoins with the Sun approximately every 583.92 days, which the Mayans rounded up to 584 days.
The Inferior Conjunction of Venus and the Sun
During the 584 years of Venus’s synodic cycle, Venus and the Sun are in conjunction twice. One is the inferior conjunction, where Venus passes between the Sun and the Earth, and the other is the superior conjunction, where Venus lies on the other side of the Sun. During the inferior conjunction, Venus is at its closest to the Earth and looks as if it is retrograding. On the other hand, during the superior conjunction, Venus is at its furthest from Earth.
During Venus’s ingress on June 6, 2012, Venus and the Sun will be in an inferior conjunction, and a few days later, Venus will shine in the east as the morning star. This new appearance is called a heliacal rising, and the Mayans considered this position of Venus to be an indication of danger. It indicates that disease, disaster, and destruction will occur. Venus appearing as the morning star also suggests that leaders will lose their positions or other social disasters will take place.
The Return of Kukulcan
Venus is a feminine symbol in western astrology. However, the ancient Mexicans related Venus with the masculine God Quetzalcoatle (or Kukulcan). Venus’s cycle is related to the Quetzalcoatle myth, and Aztec inscriptions describe how Quetzalcoatle came from the bright planet of Venus to educate them. The Mayans named this teacher Kukulcan, which means “feathered snake.”
Venus appearing as the morning star after an inferior Venus-Saturn conjunction is related to Kukulcan’s landing on Earth (or rebirth). A critical question arises here: Were these gods actually extraterrestrials from more advanced civilizations?
Some researchers claim the Mayans relate the end date of their calendar (December 21, 2012) with the return of Kukulcan. According to Mayan legend, Kukulcan was a god that came from the skies. He spent 52 years with them and taught them many things. After educating them about all aspects of life, he returned to the skies, promising that he would come back one day.
We also see Venus as a teacher in the Vedic tradition. In Indian mythology, Venus is called Shukra. He is the son of Bhrigu, a great oracle and astrologer who taught spirituality to others. According to Vedic tradition, Venus is known as the Guru, or teacher, of the asuras (the demons). Quetzalcoatle of the Aztecs and Kukulcan of the Mayan are very similar don’t you think? Could Venus, passing in front of the Sun in Gemini during the year the Mayan calendar is to end, give us clues about new knowledge and teachings that will be given to humanity?
Venus–Pleiades Close Up
For the Mayans, Pleiades was more important than the other constellations, even Sirius. The transit of this constellation from the Zenith of the sky occurred during the last days of Tzolkin and Haab after a period of 52 years.
Venus was also involved in another Pleiades cycle. The astrologers of the ancient Mayan civilization based their calendar on a Venus–Pleiades conjunction. Recently, Venus came closer to Pleiades in 2004. It will occur again in 2012 and also be closer to the stars Alcyone and Maia. It is interesting that the Mayan calendar will end in 2012 with Venus’s transit between the stars of Pleiades. On May 20, 2012, a solar eclipse will be in conjunction with Pleiades, causing a unique alignment of the Sun, the Moon, the Earth and Pleiades. Could it be a coincidence that Venus’s ingress will take place just 17 days after that alignment?
Venus Ingresses in History
Some researchers claim Venus’s transit is related to sunspots, which affect the Sun–Moon–Earth–Venus system. The Venus transit will trigger the end of the fifth sun and prepare the way for the next era. Can we confirm this through research? We can develop some opinions about the Venus transit by examining the historical evidence of previous Venus transits.
1518–1526:
Hernan Cortez came to the Yucatan peninsula in 1518 with 600 men, invading and killing the native people.
Magellan started his voyage to prove the world was not flat. This was the most important step towards the New-World order.
Portuguese explorers discovered New Guinea.
Paranormal events increased.
The Aztecs mentioned in their monuments that the sky was full of light shields during the double transits of Venus in 1518 and 1526. Could it be that the things they described as “shields” were UFOs?
Martin Luther started the Protestant Reformation by hanging his Ninety-Five Theses to the door of a church in Wittenberg, protesting the practices of the Catholic Church. The German princes and people adopted Luther’s ideas, sparking the Peasants’ War. While the main reason for the war was economic problems, there was also an aspect of religious rebellion.
In the Battle of Mohács, between the Ottoman Empire and the Hungarian Kingdom, on August 29, 1526, a large part of Hungary was brought under Ottoman rule.
1631–1639:
One of the world’s major economic crises was experienced due to tulip bulbs.
A “mini ice age” was endured for 70 years after this Venus ingress (1645–1720).
Many important developments took place in information and communication, as well as transportation. In Denmark and Sweden, national postal services were instituted, and as a result, communication reached new boundaries. In 1639, the first printed media was established in Cambridge, and the first overseas mail, which was sent from Europe, reached Boston. The first printing machine was built in the British colonies, with a second in North America in the same year.
1761–1769:
The American Revolution took place.
Astronomical developments gained speed. In 1761, the first international cooperation was set up to observe the Venus transit.
On April 23, 1766, a devastating earthquake hit Istanbul. The following autumn was also plagued by earthquakes. On September 5, another earthquake hit Izmir, followed by another in Istanbul in November 1767.
1874-1882:
Economic crises hit the world. The Ottoman Empire began to deteriorate due to the economic crisis of 1874.
UFOs were observed in Mexico (in 1875) and in the Persian Gulf (from 1879 to 1890).
The industrial revolution peaked, and various inventions came to be, such as telephones, phonographs, cash registers, seismographs, and so on.
Chaos, rebellion, and war was seen throughout the world. In 1875, the Serbian revolution broke out, and in 1877, a war began between Russia and the Ottomans.
Active natural disasters occurred. The volcano Krakatoa erupted in 1883, killing 36,000 people.
The Venus Ingress of 2004
The events on Earth seemed to gain momentum after the Venus ingress on June 8, 2004. The flow of information through the Internet became incredibly fast, and natural disasters increased. Hurricane Charley caused massive damage on August 13, and Hawaii experienced a flood on September 18 and 19. There was also a devastating tsunami after a magnitude 9.0 earthquake under the Indian Ocean on December 26. On the positive side, we witnessed many developments in space technology. More people observed UFOs and some past reports on the subject were revealed. The British Ministry of Defense and the Mexican Ministry of Defense released some of their investigations. In May 2008, the Vatican Observatory declared that believing in extraterrestrials was not against the Catholic religion and beliefs. Between May and September 2008, extraordinary UFO encounters were recorded.
In conclusion, we can say Venus’s ingress periods are characterized by:
Progress in science, broadcasting, communication, and information technologies
Paranormal events and UFO-related news
Climate change and natural disasters
Upheaval, rebellion, and war
Reforms in beliefs and the emergence of new ideas
Economic instability
The Venus Ingress in 2012
Most of the Venus ingress events we analyzed above were in Gemini and Sagittarius. The Venus transit in 2012 will also take place in Gemini, and it will probably bring developments in communication and the exchange of information, so we will learn many new things. We will be more inclined towards the New-Age concept. We could also assume that our mental perceptions will develop and our understanding capacity will become sharper after the solar eclipse in Gemini on May 20, 2012. This eclipse will take place in the first degree of Gemini, indicating we will have new information and communication technologies will advance.
We also see that changes in beliefs have also been experienced during previous Venus ingress movements. Just before the Venus Ingress, the solar eclipse on May 20, 2012 will square Neptune, increasing the risk. This eclipse will take place in the first decan of Gemini. According to ancient astrologers, eclipses in the first decan of Gemini bring conflicts between the clergymen and religions and disobedience to the divine rules. As Neptune will square this eclipse and the Venus ingress will also take place in Gemini, we will question our beliefs, and there may be confusion in the matter.
Following this eclipse, we may learn crucial information that affects our perspective towards life and beliefs. These things will probably confuse us, because Neptune squaring the eclipse indicates a conflict and imbalance between the existing and new knowledge and beliefs. These effects will be triggered by Jupiter’s entrance into Gemini on June 11. Around this day, people can gain new insights and knowledge about their past, such as who they are and their role on Earth. Jupiter in Gemini is open to all kinds of information and experiences. It demands to learn as much as the cosmos will permit. As the expanding Jupiter moves into Gemini, which is a mental sign and eager to learn, we will gain the capacity to expand our minds.
There are other indications that we will be gifted with crucial knowledge around these dates: The eclipse on May 20 will be in connection with Pleiades and Saturn and will be on the same longitude as Spica, which all shows that we are in for a fateful period. Perhaps, we will be gifted with the knowledge of ancient civilizations because of the Saturn–Spica conjunction on June 6, the same day as the Venus ingress. Saturn is related to the old and traditional. It symbolizes our ancestors, the ancients. On the other hand, Spica symbolizes the gift of the Goddess. According to the astrologer Bernadette Brady, this gift was to be a kind of harvest before. Spica now symbolizes the new information coming from the goddess. It is now the time to rediscover the ancient knowledge.
Venus Ingress Chart
This century’s second Venus ingress in front of the Sun will take place on June 6, 2012 and will be visible from many places on Earth. Alaska, western Canada, Hawaii, the West Pacific, North Asia, Japan, Korea, East China, the Philippines, East Australia, and New Zealand will observe the whole transit. In the Caribbean, some parts of North America, and the northwest of South America, the sun will set during the Venus ingress. In Central Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and east Africa, the transit will already be in progress when the sun rises. Portugal, Spain, West Africa, and a large part of South America will not see any of the transit.
In June 2004, the Venus ingress was seen before the southern hemisphere of the Sun, but in 2012, it will pass in front of the northern hemisphere.
The first significant thing in the Venus ingress chart is Uranus–Pluto square’s relation with the Moon. The Moon is in 7˚46΄Capricorn. In this chart, Uranus is nearly squaring Pluto. However, before the exact square, the faster moving Moon will first square Uranus then Pluto. This causes the events to take place before their expected times, so before the exact Uranus–Pluto square in June 2012, we will begin to feel its harsh awakening and transforming effects.
In this chart, the Moon and Pluto are in conjunction with the fixed star Facies. This star is known to be malefic and associated with violence and destruction. Pluto will be in conjunction with this fixed star throughout the year. Bernadette Brady says about this:
Facies is the penetrating stare of a lethal weapon. It holds the most difficult and possibly the most violent symbolism in the Heavens.
It represents a penetration of action that has no regard for others, and a person capable of this can become a great leader or a fearsome dictator. The other side of Facies is the individual who may be victim of the archers stare. Facies can thus be cruel and ruthless or in a gentler manifestation, it can symbolize strong focused energy producing someone who is a high achiever but somewhat brusque in manner.
We also know the Mezzo–American cultures also believed that Venus being the morning star indicated war and turbulence. Consequently, by the summer months, but especially after August, we can expect stress between people and countries. As the eclipse will occur only two days before the Venus ingress makes a T-square aspect with Mars, we can say this will be a harsh effect. On the day of the eclipse, the Sun–Venus conjunction will be square with Mars, which also signifies stress in human relations.
We see that Saturn also makes a conjunction with Spica. This conjunction shows we are passing through a very fateful period and at the edge of acquiring critical knowledge. As Venus’s ingress will take place in Gemini, which is associated with communication and the exchange of information, we will learn many things and acquire intense spiritual and intellectual knowledge before and after Venus’s ingress. On the other hand, we should remember that Saturn will be in conjunction with Spica. Saturn always tests us, and if we are not prepared, Saturn can take this present back from the ones who do not deserve it.
In this chart, Neptune and the star Formalhaut are also in conjunction. This conjunction will bring spiritual reform, enlightenment, and development, as well as a great value for idealistic aims. Serving humanity is also serving God, and here, universal love is the main issue. Neptune’s conjunction with an important fixed star in this special chart also shows that we are at a critical point where we will understand our true place in the galactic system. In astrology, Neptune is considered to be the upper octave of Venus. It elevates the worldly love of Venus to a divine level.
We also see there is a septile aspect between Jupiter and Uranus. I rarely use this aspect, but after reading Lynn Koiner’s article, which states the septile aspects are active when UFOs are observed frequently, I began to keep track of it. It is very interesting to see this aspect on the day of Venus’s ingress! Remember, the Mayans associated Venus with Kukulcan, and they believed this teacher god was to return one day. Some people believe the Venus ingress is the sign of his return.
When I constructed the chart of the exact Venus–Sun conjunction based on Greenwich, I was not surprised to see Uranus so close to the Ascendant. This is an indication of a big awakening and transformation. Of course this also indicates unexpected and traumatic changes. The risk of epidemic diseases brought by Venus’s ingress can increase because of the activation of the Uranus-Pluto square. I should emphasize that we should take care of our health in the summer months.
The Venus Ingress in 2012 and Our Health
Some scientists claim that the virus that causes endemic flu emanates from Venus. Donald Barber from Norman Lockyer Observatory in Britain stated that some fungi-type bacteria that emanated from rainwater were linked with the Venus–Sun inferior conjunction. Barber also stated that six major epidemic diseases emerged 55 days after the geomagnetic storms that followed the Venus–Sun inferior conjunction.
To summarize these scientific theories: Because some planetary alignments cause solar activities, Venus–Earth–Sun alignments also cause solar flares. As the magnetic field of Venus is too weak, ionized gases from its upper atmosphere leave the planet due to solar storms. The bacterial colonies in these layers reach the Earth’s atmosphere during the planetary alignment. The viruses, which disseminate through the air from the poles, then cause flu epidemics around the world.
We are now reaching the solar maximum phase, where we will experience increased magnetic currents. Because Venus’s plasma tail will be closer to the Earth during this interaction, the possibilities for virus contagion will increase. Throughout history, flu virus mutations and other pandemics were linked with sun spot maximums. For example, following the sun spot maximum in 1917, the Spanish Flu pandemic started in 1918.
Similarities with 2012
The Spanish Flu was the greatest flu pandemic ever seen. 20–50 million people died due to the worldwide spread of the virus. The Venus–Sun inferior conjunction occurred on February 9, 1918. Approximately one month later, the first flu case was reported at Camp Funston, Kansas, on March 11, 1918. Mars was in Virgo and retrograding at the time, as it is now. Also, the South Node was in Gemini, which is also the case now, and Jupiter was touring in Gemini, as it will after June 11, 2012. A total solar eclipse was experienced in Gemini in June 1918, and this will again occur on May 20, 2012. The first of these eclipses was in 17 degrees Gemini. The Venus–Sun alignment on June 6, 2012 will be in 15 degrees Gemini and trigger the eclipse, as it did in 1918.
In medical astrology, Gemini rules the lungs and respiratory system. As many elements will be in Gemini, this can be an indication that airborne diseases will increase. According to experiments at the Lister Institute, the deaths in the global pandemic of 1918–1919 were caused by asphyxia due to the liquefaction of lung tissue. Gemini, being an air sign, represents being in relation with a huge number of people. According to the scientist Gina Kolata, the epidemic in 1918 was caused by the change in the atmosphere and spread by contagion. Gemini is also associated with journeys and in June, by Venus’s ingress, many people will probably be on vacation trips. Many will also gather at the Summer Olympics in London during the summer months of 2012. This could create the appropriate environment for an airborne infection to spread. The presence of Jupiter in Gemini also indicates that such a disease will spread among the public. Consequently, we should take care of our health, which is also proven in terms of astrological indicators.
In medical astrology Gemini is related to the lungs, shoulders, arms, hands, upper extremity nerves and bones, the thymus gland, speaking and hearing, the larynx, the vomiturition reflex, breathing, capillary vessels, and the nose and sinuses. According to the Cornell Encyclopedia of Medical Astrology, Gemini only rules the upper lobes of the lungs. Dr. Harry Darling claims that the upper and lower respiratory system is associated with Gemini. Some sources also declare that this sign also rules the peripheral and central nervous systems.
Gemini is associated with breathing, and it is the sign that responds quicker than others, so spasmodic dyspnea can be observed. The South Node in Gemini is also considered to promote mental disorders, epilepsy, inadequate lung capacity, allergenic disorders in the respiratory system, and speech defects. According to Cornell, tuberculosis could be on the agenda, which is a reasonable forecast. Jupiter in Gemini can bring diseases such as pulmonary embolism, congestion, weakness, nervous disorders, and tumors in parts of the body ruled by Gemini, as well as hypophysis disorders and diabetes due to the interaction between the South Node and Venus.
According to scientists, the invasion of microbes that can cause such epidemics can only occur between May and July. Virgo, which is associated with health, will be in Mars until July 3, and this is also an indication of viruses. In the last days of June, South Node–Jupiter and Venus will also conjunct in Gemini, so we should be extremely careful at the beginning of summer.
Venus’s ingress and its relationship with solar maximums and the risk of epidemics show us why we really need to understand the reason why the Mayans followed Venus so closely!
