Do you ever worry that you cannot spend enough money on your children or feel guilty because you cannot send them to a private school?
Education is certainly a good and valuable thing, but what our children really need is correct parenting rather than a correct education. There’s no need to worry about children’s futures if they have loving, understanding mothers and authoritative yet moderate fathers.
It would be better to support these elements with self-possession, an emotional balance that is independent of conditions, contentment, compassion, courage, and generosity. It gives the ability to find the right choices and promotes an open, independent mind that is free from mundane needs. We need to develop these attributes by recognizing that what’s good for our children is also good for us, and what’s good for us is also good for our children. Because children’s characters are shaped by mimicking things in their surroundings, our words and actions should be equal to the task. It is hard for a short-tempered, mean, and fearful parent to raise a compassionate, generous, and courageous child.
Some of the biggest problems in people’s lives stem from mothers that are not actually mothers and fathers that are not actually fathers. The bigger problem happens when children cannot see a real role model in their lives. Growing up without a role model is growing up without direction.
Do you ever worry that you cannot spend enough money on your children or feel guilty because you cannot send them to a private school? Do you ever fear that your children won’t do well in sports and exams? If you really want to give a good future to your child, your primary concern shouldn’t be education, money, or possessions but rather being a good parent and a real person. Believe me, these will be your greatest legacy.
