We have two sides, one side that deems itself to be two sides.
One is a tyrant, while the other is a sage.
The tyrant divides and separates, yet the sage does not discriminate.
The tyrant assumes, while the sage sees and knows.
The tyrant lives in the past and the future, striving to exist in the now, but the sage lives in the now and gives up its existence.
The tyrant hampers, while the sage supports.
The tyrant believes in desire, and the sage believes in a pure heart.
The tyrant divides and separates, yet the sage does not discriminate.
The tyrant kills, while the sage lets life continue.
The tyrant includes mindfulness in the mind, but the sage includes the mind in mindfulness.
The tyrant is controlled by thoughts, while the sage controls thought.
The tyrant tries to control, and the sage surrenders.
The tyrant holds, while the sage releases.
The tyrant owns, and the sage becomes.
The tyrant sees the dancer and that’s all there is to it, yet the sage watches the dance and all of its aspects.
The tyrant fears, while the sage is courageous.
The tyrant commiserates, yet the sage understands and shows affection.
The tyrant writhes, while the sage stands still.
The tyrant knows what is being preached, yet the sage knows what’s there.
The tyrant asks, “What will I gain from this act?” while the sage is beside itself with the act and is finished with questions and expectations.
The tyrant knows itself, but the sage knows there’s no such thing as “me.”
The tyrant is mortal, while the sage is immortal.
