Note to Self

Are you bored? Good! It means you’ll soon come up with something, maybe even something creative…

Are you sad? If so, just wait it out. Sit there, and feel it. Feel it in your bones. You know it will pass, so there’s no need to make a fuss. Breathe deeply, and look, it’s over.

Are you mad? If so, don’t say anything. For a change, just silence yourself. This time, don’t say anything and just walk away. Maybe go out and really take a walk. Don’t keep repeating the incident in your head. Don’t repeat it to your friends. Just feel the anger and where it is at that moment. Breathe and wait. Write down how you feel, if you like. But if you must respond for some reason, do it after you have calmed down.

Are you frustrated? Can you not see a way out of your frustration? If so, go and find the solution and just do it. Just focus on the solution and don’t think about anything else. Breathe. If you still can’t see a way out, sing a song as loudly as possible.

Are you happy? Don’t smother the feeling. Feel it, sure—feel it in your bones, but hold it very gently, like you’re holding something very delicate. Look it in the eye, and feel it again. Breathe, and enjoy it while it lasts, because it will also pass. Amplify it and make a mental note of the feeling, where you feel it, and how it tastes, so you can recall it when needed.

Are you thrilled, jumping up and down? Get this energy and drain it. Feel this energy flowing through your body. Is your heart beating like crazy, or do you feel tingling in your arms and legs? Do your muscles all feel stronger, like you could run for miles? Yes! Feel it. Breathe. You can do anything right now!

Are you scared? Are you sweating, and are drums playing in your head in an unbearable headache? You don’t feel like you can make a sound, and your voice is gone. Breathe. Even breathing is difficult, but try it. Close your eyes and remember the happiness in you. Let your body remember the happiness and calmness within you. Breathe.

Are you calm? That calmness appears in the moment, just when you feel you are in that moment, and then another moment may follow, and another one. That’s when you make contact with your essence and the essence of all beings. They all connect in that moment. There’s no noise other than the most beautiful sounds. No smells other than the most pleasant aromas tickle your nose. You are smiling, but not only on your face but also with your entire being. And you feel lighter, because there’s no weight, no worries, no sorrow, or anything else of concern at that moment. You are one with everything, and everything is one with you. You feel and know everything, and everything feels and knows you…

Never force it, though, because it will just escape. It never works when you try to force it…
