Theta Healing is an amazing tool we can use during our spiritual journeys to clear our blockages, create anything we wish, and so much more. It’s almost impossible to list the benefits, but what is Theta Healing? We put this question to Begüm Güven Karace, a master of Theta Healing in Turkey.
Hasan Sonsuz Celiktas:
Today, we’re going to talk with Begum Güven Karace about Theta Healing®. Begum, let’s get to know you a little first if that’s okay?
Begüm Güven Karace:
Sure. I’ve been involved with spirituality and healing since 1999. Actually, I started my journey with Reiki, but I’ve also studied other healing energies, including RA-SHEEBA. I’ve practiced all of them in depth and became an instructor. I attended courses and workshops before training others. Later on, I came across breathing techniques and was trained as a breathing coach. Korkut Keskinew was my Reiki master. Later in 2011, my two dear friends Cem Korkut and Banu Bayraktar and I founded the İyilik Center. After Reiki, breathing techniques, and family constellations, I finally discovered Theta Healing in 2012 and came to love it a lot. I reaped great benefits from it and witnessed similar results in many other people. Afterwards, I started to attend its training events, which generally take place abroad. I first learned there and then returned here to share the knowledge with my friends.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
When I came here for interviews, we would have these conversations. You wanted to practice ThetaHealing on me, but I honestly refused your offers at first. There are so many of these techniques with grandiose names, such as ThetaHealing, Matrix Energies, Access Consciousness, and whatever else. I know these are actually all great teachings, sound techniques in their own right, but I avoided them at first. So, I finally gave in and asked to see what ThetaHealing was all about. After our first session, I realized it wasn’t just a well-presented practice with a catchy name—it actually runs very deep. In fact, we had four sessions, with each one going deeper and deeper. Begüm, do you remember my facial expression after the fourth session? We went so deep that I was beside myself, almost spaced out. Okay, tell us Begüm, what is ThetaHealing?
Begüm Güven Karace:
ThetaHealing takes its name from the brain waves of the same name. As you know by now, theta waves are generated by the brain in certain states, and to bring out such waves, we use a certain method. Basically, it is during these brain waves that the healing process takes place, both physical and mental. ThetaHealing is a technique that uses our minds (which have an unlimited potential), our souls, and our connection with the Creator.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
Do these brain waves occur during sleep and deep meditation. Are they the ones just below alpha waves?
Begüm Güven Karace:
Yes, they have a lower frequency than alpha waves. You see, the alpha waves relax us. Our eyes are most likely closed by this stage, and we start visually imagining. When we practice guided meditation, our guide leads us by saying things like, “You are now standing on a field of green grass. Feel the grass under your feet.” We then begin to feel green grass under our feet and think about it, the green, beautiful green grass…Then suddenly, we think about a green shirt. Did I turn the iron off? Did I pull the plug? In short, I’m back in my home, far away from the green grass. I then go to the kitchen and check if I turned everything off. I then think about what I need to cook and what I need to do. Do I need to buy bread on my way home later? The guide is still saying, “You are standing on green grass,” and I think to myself, “Okay, sorry, green grass.” I then gather my composure and return to the green grass, which represents my alpha state. In the theta state, however, I am only standing on the green grass. I become the green grass and feel it completely.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
Did you just say it’s lower? Is this true?
Begüm Güven Karace:
Yes, as the frequency gets lower, the brain relaxes. Theta waves have a frequency of 4–7 Hz
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
I get it. Lower is better rather than worse.
Begüm Güven Karace:
It is better, way better. We experience this brain wave when we fall asleep and our dreams begin. We see things visually and focus on them. You know, like when you wake up in the morning to the alarm, having just left the best part of your dream, and wonder if you can go back and continue dreaming. At that point, if you can go back there, you’re in a theta state. If you can’t return and instead start to think about what you need to do today, you’re rising to an alpha state.
Also, interestingly enough, theta waves occur when we pray and stand in awe. In other words, when we connect with God, we are in a theta state. When I ask God to protect or help me with all my heart, no matter how I pray, I connect with the Creator. My brain switches to a theta state automatically, as has been shown by studies.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
So, when everything all goes to pot, and you can do nothing but ask God for help, that’s where it is?
Begüm Güven Karace:
That’s the theta state, yes. Also, when you thank God with your whole being, you’re also in a theta state.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
So, how can we reach this state without falling asleep or meditating?
Begüm Güven Karace:
Well, this is actually what we teach in the first three days. There is a road map for it. We begin with meditation, where we learn to relax our minds. Over and over, we practice this meditation and learn the road map. We learn it in such a way that afterwards, when we experience a deep delta sleep, we can close our eyes whenever we want and return to that frequency.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
Okay, I’m a very uneasy, fidgety, and anxious person, but I’m meek as a lamb when I practice with you. Let’s say I come here feeling very turbulent and distressed. How are you going to get me into a theta state?
Begüm Güven Karace:
When I enter a theta state, my brain starts to broadcast it. For example, as we are talking, we are in a beta state, both of us. Even though you are only listening to me, you are most likely in beta because you are responding to my brain waves. During a session, I automatically connect to your reality, and by doing so, I bring you to a theta state. In other words, theta practice is not strictly mental—it also includes the soul and energy. They are all grouped together. That’s why it’s so successful.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
So, what about you? Does you being in a theta state depend on your practice or on your teachings? I can come here and pull you down or affect your energy, right?
Begüm Güven Karace:
We specifically teach courses in crowded places, because we, and many of our students, can reach these frequencies even in the most crowded places, such as a busy train station.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
How was ThetaHealing discovered?
Begüm Güven Karace:
It was discovered by an American woman named Vianna Stibal, who has had psychic ability since birth. She had a very hard life previously, throughout which she performed psychic readings and gained inspiration, but she suffered from health problems and domestic issues. During this time, she became interested in all the various techniques she came across. From Taoism to medicinal herbs and stones, you name it, she studied them all. One day, Vianna felt sick. She started suffering from leg pain and lost her ability to walk. She went to hospital and visited many doctors. They performed a biopsy and diagnosed her with an advanced state of cancer. The doctors gave her one to three months left to live: three if they amputated her leg and one if not.
This came right after her divorce, and she had three young children. She went home crying and started to pray, “Lord, I can’t die now. I have children.” She then felt an awareness and heard a voice that said, “Vianna, whether they cut your leg off or not, you are here. Heal your leg.” Afterwards, with the guidance she received, she began practicing to heal her leg, and this later grew into the ThetaHealing Technique. Over time, she develops the technique, but like anyone else would do in the circumstances, she makes an appointment for the amputation. When they test her before her surgery, the results show no trace of the cancer. She had completely healed within a few days. Naturally, she returns home in high spirits, feeling blessed. She begins to practice her method with other people with incurable diseases and gets great results, so she then begins training other practitioners.
Basically, what Vianna is saying is what we already know: Whatever exists in our bodies or in our lives, it’s all in our minds. It could have arisen from our experiences, the things we’ve witnessed since our time in the womb to the present day. During this period, we develop beliefs. We sense something, fill with emotion, and believe in something, and when we engrave this into our subconscious, it becomes a belief and we start living our lives accordingly. This belief either cures us or makes us sick. It either makes us rich or poor, happy or miserable, but there is more. We also inherit beliefs from our ancestors. Moreover, we possess the emotional memories of specific incidents they lived through. In a word, we have these beliefs in our genes. Aside from this, there is also a part called the “History Level,” which holds memories from past lives and the collective consciousness of the society we live in.
Most know about the Hundredth Monkey Effect. Once a certain number of people exhibit certain knowledge, everyone else also begins to exhibit the same knowledge and beliefs. In addition, there are primary missions that our souls resolve to experience during their long journeys. Now, I need a system that will work on four different levels. If I want to change a situation, I need more than my current consciousness from my present lifetime and mindset. I also need past lives, the collective consciousness, my genetics, and the decisions of my soul. Starting here, I ask myself, “If I have all these, how can I find them in my consciousness or my subconsciousness? How can I notice them? How can I take responsibility for them? What’s more, how can I change them?” This is how ThetaHealing works.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
During our sessions, I’ve had past-life visions. Does this happen to everyone? Is having them inevitable? Can anyone learn to have them?
Begüm Güven Karace:
It’s very important to understand how we all have beliefs that originate from our past lives, our spiritual sides, or our genetic inheritance. All these beliefs are connected with emotions, and this certainly reflects on our lives. We begin with emotions, and these are energies in motion. We record everything through emotions, and actually, when I’m in a theta state, I also see your visions.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
You see by connecting to me?
Begüm Güven Karace:
That’s right. I see the outline, but as you are the one who can relay it most, we confirm each other. In short, we reveal what you already possess, and all of this has a counterpart in your current lifetime and body. When we find that counterpart, we can easily find other parts, one after another. Since everyone can dream, feel, and sense, anyone can easily learn and practice this technique or attend a session.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
So, it’s like a computer program?
Begüm Güven Karace:
Exactly.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
When you use Windows on a PC, there is a lot of software behind it. In my understanding, theta reminds me of entering some software code and altering it. In fact, after our first session, I remembered the famous scene from The Matrix where Morpheus asks Neo which program he wants. You did the same thing for me, and I kind of felt like an Android phone. This may sound a bit fantastic, but can you upload a foreign language that I don’t already speak? Or can you just make it easier to learn?
Begüm Güven Karace:
Nothing is impossible, and there is actually no language that you don’t already know, seeing as we are all interconnected through the collective consciousness and the Akashic Records. What’s more, if there is no such thing as time, and therefore no past or future, everything happens here and now, so it is possible for me to speak any language.
It’s my belief system that prevents me from speaking them: I believe it is impossible. To speak such languages, I need to study them for eight years or so on such-and-such a course. To become fluent, I then have to go and live in that country. Me, my mother, my father, and my ancestors all hold beliefs like these. When you clean them one by one, you don’t need to meet these requirements anymore. It just becomes second nature.
People can be beamed up from one place and beamed down to another. If there are people who can do this, maybe we can do it too. But why can’t we do it? It’s because we have limiting beliefs. Yet when I clean them one by one, I can do all of them with ease.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
It’s not just the limiting beliefs you mention—there are people also who will say, “Geez! What nonsense!” Yet these things are being studied in many institutions around the world.
Begüm Güven Karace:
It is not like it used to be, though. Back then, if we mentioned energies and healing, only a few people would show any interest. Now, I get asked if I saw a TV show about such energies. These things are given screen time these days. In other words, the more we learn and enlighten ourselves as individuals, the more that society is enlightened with us.
Have you ever tried teaching your mother to use a computer? I did, but there was a huge difference between my experience with her and that of teaching my five-year-old nephew. The latest generation arrives with lots of new information already loaded. As we learn and understand, others begin to understand too, and in my opinion, this is how the enlightenment thing works.
Vianna Stibal, the founder of ThetaHealing, explained the mission of ThetaHealing like this recently: “To enlighten everyone, one person at a time, and show everyone their true connection to The Creator.”
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
In your opinion, what’s the difference between ThetaHealing and other practices? Why did you choose this practice when you already know other methods such as Reiki?
Begüm Güven Karace:
I still practice Reiki and breathing techniques. In fact, Reiki and Theta use the same energy, the energy we receive from the Creator. In Reiki, if you want something, and if there’s a problem or disorder in your body, you continuously practice Reiki on that area. After practicing it patiently for some time, it finally moves the energy in that part of your body or in your life, and the energy starts to flow. As time passes, the disorder goes away, and you say, “Hah! I’ve been practicing Reiki for so long, and it worked!” It takes time, but you don’t need to get to the root of the issue. You just practice and leave the rest to God, and the problem is solved. To move the energy, you need to practice for a long time, but you don’t need to pinpoint the exact issue. For example, say I have knee pain. After 21 days of Reiki, the pain goes away, but during that time, the mindset that created the pain also changes. That energy cannot exist anymore after my Reiki practice, so my thoughts inevitably change as well. Most of the time, I don’t even realize that something changed. In ThetaHealing, meanwhile, I pinpoint the source of the problem. I have knee pain, but when did it start? What triggered this pain? How do I feel about it? Which belief created this feeling? After receiving my answers, I connect to the Creator, perform my healing practice, change my belief, and upload the emotion I need. I then test myself to see if it worked.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
Is it fair to say that ThetaHealing is a miracle?
Begüm Güven Karace:
There are actually many miracles in our lives, and we ignore our own strength. We read stories about a woman who lifts a car to save her child and a man who fights off ten assailants and perceive them as miracles, but they’re not. They just show our true strength that we usually ignore. We forget how powerful we actually are. We are all parts of our Creator. We were created from a drop of water and a handful of soil, and God breathed life into us. The angels then came down to marvel at this. But humanity with all this strength continues to deny its own abilities. It is not a miracle but rather our natural state. Why would I carry pain unless it served me somehow? The pain is helping me to fulfill my goals, the real goals I set for this life before coming here. The pain helps me to remember my path. It is the motivating factor for me to take that path, and once I choose that path, the knee pain isn’t needed anymore. Everything is here to serve me in some way, all the various difficulties and pain. When you talk to people who have been through big troubles or battled serious illnesses, they will mostly tell you those events were the best things that ever happened to them. They will say things like, “If it hadn’t happened to me, I would have never chosen the path I’m on now.” You’ve heard such things, right? All the troubles, whether great or small, are signals to help us find our own way. When we see the reasons behind them and walk on our own paths, all is well again. It’s not a miracle but rather a fact of life.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
Now, since ThetaHealing is such an amazing tool to heal us, can we close all the hospitals and just practice theta instead? Is it the ultimate solution? Do you ever need to see a doctor?
Begüm Güven Karace:
Of course I do, but there’s a difference now. I now know that if I need to see a doctor, there is something wrong in my mind. Specifically, there’s some trouble I don’t want to deal with and I’ve chosen the easy way out. Or it could be I want to hurt myself in some way or punish myself. We usually achieve these things by getting sick. ThetaHealing is not a medical treatment. If you are on a course of treatment, you should continue it. That said, I believe that one day, we won’t need Reiki or ThetaHealing. Once we can finally expand our minds completely and enlighten each other one by one, there will be no further need for hospitals either.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
We will reach that fluidity.
Begüm Güven Karace:
Yes. Everything we see was imagined at some point. You are younger, but when I was a kid, there was a TV show called Star Trek that I used to adore. The captain would touch his communicator and say, “Beam us up, Scotty!” This was back when we used to talk on old-fashioned rotary phones that needed to be plugged into the wall, so this seemed like an impossible thing, and there was no way it could happen in reality.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
I’m not that young. I remember the original Star Trek.
Begüm Güven Karace:
Many other things in daily life were once science fiction. And now, like in the book 2150 AD, we wonder if there will still be hospitals in the future.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
That book is on another level. It really is something else.
Begüm Güven Karace:
Yes, it is. We are going to start imagining these things and get to work in making them happen. To achieve this, love, understanding, acceptance, and service will act as our motivation. In other words, by studying the main virtues, we will extend them until one day, our society will resemble that of 2150 AD. We may not need hospitals then, but they are still necessary today. No matter which method we practice, we will most certainly still need medical help and consultation. We should regard these practices as complimentary methods. If we can eliminate from our minds the circumstances that created the situation while also receiving medical treatment, the healing process progresses perfectly.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
Does ThetaHealing have the same effect on everyone? When does someone start to see results? How long does it take to see the effects? Does it vary from person to person?
Begüm Güven Karace:
No, it doesn’t vary from person to person at all, at least if I find the right spot while working with you. Let’s assume that the beliefs in our subconscious are stacked up, one on top of another. The one at the bottom is our core belief, and we build a tiny mountain of new beliefs over it based on our experiences. This becomes our struggle. The quickest way to demolish this tiny mountain is to remove the belief at the base, and all the others will fall to the ground like Jenga pieces. If one of us is reluctant to do this, we may miss that base belief. However, even if we can’t go that deep, our practice still helps and has an immediate effect on you.
We say it usually happens within 24 hours, because according to research into delta sleep, this phase is when our brain processes the data it gathered during the day and transforms it into subprograms. Like when you install new software on your computer and it tells you to restart, so the newest version can be prepared for use. A deep sleep works like this. After a deep sleep, we see maximum results. It works the same way for everyone.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
So it’s guaranteed?
Begüm Güven Karace:
Of course, but if the same effects don’t present, it’s because we maybe didn’t dig deep enough or the client is not cooperative.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
But if a session is not successful, you repeat it?
Begüm Güven Karace:
Yes. In some cases, a belief is buried so deep, it sometimes needs to be cleaned from above. Remember, after a very deep session, even you, who is used to working with energies and hardships, was dazed. In some cases, we may not be able to reach the deepest level in a single session. It depends on whether the person is willing to let us or not.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
It sounds like an archaeological dig.
Begüm Güven Karace:
Yes, it is exactly like an archaeological dig. If the other person is open to solving the problem, even a single session can lead to removing the deepest beliefs, like someone who has a fear of water taking up diving or someone with a fear of heights going bungee jumping.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
So how does the training process go?
Begüm Güven Karace:
The basic training takes three days, during which we teach the very simple, yet fundamental, techniques, such as how to reach theta. We also teach how to perform a body reading and body scan, how to find a belief and change it, and how to install an emotion. These are the essentials. There is actually a second phase of basic training at the advanced level, which is also a three-day course.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
So, if someone wants to become a practitioner, this course is for them, but if someone just needs therapy, they can have an hour-long session with you or another trained practitioner.
Begüm Güven Karace:
We usually have a session for each issue. No matter what the problem is, at the end of the session, we see changes. But if the issue is money, for example, we may need more.
Hasan Sonsuz Çeliktaş:
Thank you so much for everything you’ve shared with us, Begüm.
Begüm Güven Karace:
It was my pleasure.
